Saturday – Holiday was fast coming to an end. This was to be our last full day in Bali. I was no where near ready to come home it had been great having no contact with ‘our’ world. We had no phones and no internet and weren’t even tempted to use them. It was bliss. We knew there had been terrible floods back in Brisbane but we knew people would ring us if they needed to.

We had our usual breakfast feast and then headed off to the beach markets for some more shopping. I didn’t feel like I had bought enough stuff as we still had plenty of money left. I wanted to buy some more sun dresses for back home. My bartering skills did not improve at all through the length of our stay I was still very bad at it. I found a dress I really liked but with my pig headedness of not wanting to pay any more than I had offered, the lady basically told me to get lost. I try some bartering with her but she was insisting I buy two I only wanted one so I stood my ground and so did she , ‘stalemate’! Darn it I really wanted that dress too. 🙁 Then the next lady was so friendly and nice to me that I probably paid too much for the dress off her, but I liked her and liked the dress it was a good batik one.

I wanted to get a pair of fake raybans for my sister (as that’s what she wanted) they had a sun visor attached to the glasses they were more of a joke item but Robbie’s mum had bought him some when she went to Bali and my sister loves them so I promised I would buy her a pair. When I bartered for them I got stitched up big time but I wanted purple ones and the guy went off to get them but was taking ages and then Robbie come over and said I had been stitched up so I said I couldn’t wait any longer so I reneged on the deal. I felt bad but I was being stooged and they chased me saying “come back momma”.

I had been waiting for about 10 minutes for the dude to come back so I was bored anyway and it was ho, I needed a drink. The next vender we found selling them we bought from. I let Robbie Barter this time and he got them for $3, I was going to pay $10 off the other people, yeap I am an excellent barterer…. NOT!

We went back to the Hard Rock café and bought some gifts there for friends and family before heading back to Legion for some shopping there. I bought a shell tray I had had my eye on. Darn thing got broken on the way back to Australia but Robbie has since repaired it. The venders in this part of the market were mostly young men who were selling their wares by sweet talking the women. We saw number of Aussie women flirting with them and the women were just besotted by the attention, and were spending up big. ‘Good selling tactic boys’. Didn’t work on me though as I had my number one boy Robbie with me. They all wanted their picture taken and were all hamming it up for Robbie. They all squealed with delight when we showed them their picture. 🙂

We took the stuff back to the hotel and then went over to the beach for a cool down. The waves were really pumping and the surfers were having a ball. A lot of the sand had been dragged back into the ocean so there was very deep farrows in the sand. It was really windy down there and not too comfortable and the sand was blowing around so we decided to go have one last pampering. We found a relaxation salon that we could both go to & Robbie went and got a massage and I got another pedicure. This time I went for shiny blue toe nails. The girls put the tv on for me while they got to work on my feet and Robbie had his massage. I was very relaxed who would have thought tickles old me would have liked pedicures.

After that we headed back to the beach and the wind had died down so we sat down for a nice cold drink but then all of a sudden a storm rolled in so we scurried for cover back at the hotel. It was a beauty of a storm to so we just had a bit of a nana nap as there wasn’t a lot more we could do the rain was bucketing down.

After the storm we went for a wander down town to have a dinner and decided on a Teppanyaki (Japanese) tonight as a treat as it was our last full night in Bali. So we went into this very ritzy looking restaurant and there were 6 other people gathered around the big hot plate Teppanyaki bar. So we sat down to receive our feast. The people at the other end of the bar had their plates up in the air as the chef flicked their food to them, it was funny to watch . We put bibs on in case it got messy. I told Robbie I wasn’t keen on having my food thrown at me. Luckily they didn’t do that it was customers choice I chose to have it placed in front of me. We had ordered a banquet so sat down got a drink and off we went. There were two chef one was the senior looking dude who did not speak at all to us and the other was quite young and his English was exceptionally good so he explained what he was cooking and all the ingredients, Robbie was pleased with that as he always wants to know how things are made so he can have a go at making it himself if it is yummy. 🙂

So our menu was as follows;

  • Fried squid
  • Vegies in some sort of mustard sauce
  • Scallop and mushroom which came out in a schollop shell on a bed of rice which was flaming., Very dramatic and one of the yummiest things I have ever eaten even better than the tomato soup I had earlier in the week. (Robbie has made this one since being home) Yum, Yum ,Yum.
  • Stir fried vegies which were cooked in front of us with some flash sauce.
  • A steamed egg in shell which was also cooked under a copper lid on the hot plate in front of us but it was no ordinary egg it had prawn and chicken and scallop inside the shell with caviar on top
  • Stir fried beef that was the most tender beef I had ever eaten the chef said it was aussie beef
  • Poached salmon
  • Steamed & fried lobster
  • Fried Rice made under our noses , chopped & fried
  • Flaming caramelized banana and Ice cream

This was a serious feast and the food was all a gourmet delight. The chefs also put on a show flinging the ingredients around mixing chopping and preparing all in front of out eyes. This was one of the most enjoyable meals I think I have had in my whole life. Big call I know but it was. They would let us know before they were going to flambé the food so Robbie could get in the right position for a photo, they dimmed the lights to build the drama. 🙂

At the end of the meal the younger chef cleaned the hotplate and then left a message in salt he wrote this upside down and backwards amazing, it must have taken him years to perfect that skill. The cooking was pretty good too.

The dessert was flaming banana that was absolutely delicious. There were some Russian people sitting next to us and one of the gentleman saw how much I enjoyed the banana that he offered me his. I was pretty happy about that he said he didn’t have a sweet tooth but I sure did. Yummo! Another end to a perfect day. 🙂 🙂 🙂
